Cheryl FechtRealism Oil Paintings
As a child born to an Air Force officer in Rome, New York, I have lived from there to the beautiful island of Oahu in Hawaii, eventually settling in central Arizona with my husband and daughter in 1989.
My father introduced me to my first camera when I was 8 years old. He taught me the importance of composition, lighting, and subject matter. My appreciation of photography has been a huge influence on my love for Realism in my artwork today. I enjoy working from my own photos as studies for my studio paintings. I carry a camera everywhere - you never know what scene could turn into a good painting.
I adore the Southwestern United States for its huge expansive scenery, especially prevalent on the Colorado River Plateau. The colors in this desert are distinct, and I 'm constantly enhancing them on canvas.
I have had a passion for drawing since I was a young child and have been painting for more than 40 years. My artwork has been in galleries since the early 70's as well as national juried shows and are collected by people from all over the world: from North and South American, all over Europe, in China, Japan and Australia.
In recent years, I started teaching, which has been a fabulous experience to be passing on my knowledge to others. Painting the landscapes of this beautiful country, especially the Southwest and its delicate cactus flowers and birds, is a result of my enthusiasm for the outdoors, and my immense desire to record it on canvas for all time.
My life has completely changed since 2013, when I rededicated my life to the Lord. God gave me a new purpose in ministering to others. Helping God to heal their brokenness, using me as His vessel. I live my life according to His will. HE guides my every step. I have grown so much closer to God in the past few years, than I ever did in the last 50!
I go to the Lord for the inspiration for all my artwork. HE is inside each of my creations. HE brings life to every painting, which are done in His Holy name!
